What Causes Oily Skin?
If you have shiny, thick and dull-colored skin, you definitely have oily skin.
Excessive production of sebum by the sebaceous glands causes oily skin. Oily complexions are very susceptible to blackheads, pimples, clogged pores and buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. People with oily skin tend to have large pores everywhere except around the eyes and the neck area.
What causes oily skin? There are different causes of oily skin, some of which are:
Heredity – although not obvious in early stages of life, some people are born with oily skin. It usually becomes evident at the onset of adolescence.
Stress – too much stress can cause the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum thereby causing oiliness of the skin.
Diet – if your diet is high in sugar, salt and fluids other than water, but low in proteins and fruits and vegetables, then your skin is prone to becoming oily.
Medication – some medication such as birth control pills that affects your hormone level may be the reason for your oily skin.
Cosmetics – if you did not test cosmetics before using them, you might have purchased some that can cause oily skin.
