Anti-Aging Takes Daily Routines Plus Nutrition

Washing faceAnti-aging products are a huge part of the American skin care market, with nearly $1.6 billion spent annually by people in search of apparent youth. Why are anti-aging products even necessary? As we age, we all tend to lose pigment and color in our skin. The role of some anti-aging products is to counteract this change in skin color. Aging also leads to looser and less elastic skin, which in turn causes wrinkles. Fighting wrinkles and restoring elasticity will take not only topical anti-aging products, but also improved nutrition, dietary supplements and exercise.

Let’s take a look at some the daily routines you can start to improve your skin and regain (and retain) your youthful appearance. Wash your face very evening before bedtime and then wake up your skin in the morning with a splash of lukewarm water. Chances are you already know the next one: use sun block every day. I don’t mean walk around like a cream-smeared surfer. A little bit of sun block in your moisturizer or make up will reduce the aging effects of the sun.

As far as diet goes, always be on the lookout for foods rich in omega-3. The top four foods richest in omega-3 are flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon and soybeans. Include these omega-3 champions in your weekly meal planning will help keep your skin firm, yet supple. Grocers also carry other foods that have enhanced omega -3 levels. You can count on a prominent label announcing this, so they shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Beyond the daily routines, you can try out some of the numerous anti-aging skin care products and methods available today. From discount superstores to chic, exclusive cosmetic shops, topical anti-aging products abound. You can certainly thin the crowd a little bit by asking around or reading reviews online. But the only way to know for sure is to try the product yourself. If the expense is too much for you budget, ask around for trial samples.

In the end, there is no known way to completely reverse the effects of aging. But there’s certainly no harm in looking as young as we can.

How Do You Take Care of Dry Skin?

Dry skin is caused by many different factors. Some of them can be avoided, but it may not be possible to completely avoid having dry skin. But that’s no reason to give up; there are several options you have for the care of dry skin.

How do you take care of dry skin?

  1. Whenever you bathe, use lukewarm, not hot water. Hot water will dry out your skin. Limit your bath time up to 15 minutes only and never bathe more than once a day.
  2. Avoid using strong deodorant soaps. You can limit the use of such soaps to areas such as your feet, underarms and genital area.
  3. Avoid rubbing your face with the washcloth when cleansing and always pat dry when toweling yourself dry.
  4. After your bath, apply a little hypoallergenic baby oil and moisturizing cream to your body.
  5. During the day, if you feel that the skin of your face is dry, avoid using tap water which often contains chlorine, fluoride or other chemicals. Use cold mineral water or ice made with mineral water.
  6. Whenever you are outdoors, make sure that you have sunscreen on your skin. Apply it liberally to exposed areas such as the face, neck and arms.
  7. Add good oils to your diet, like fresh cold water fish, cod liver oil and omega 3 eggs.
  8. Drink 8 glasses of water everyday.
  9. Apply moisturizer before going to bed and make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep.
  10. You need to use a humidifier during cold, dry winter months. Place it in your bedroom or any part of your home where you spend a considerable amount of time. You will see a big improvement on your skin almost immediately.

Dry skin can be avoided altogether. If you don’t take care of your dry skin, this may lead to other skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis.

What Causes Dry Skin?

caring for dry skinDry skin or Xerosis is a very common problem. A low level of sebum causes the skin to become dry. So, how do you know if you have dry skin? You have dry skin if it looks parched and flaky, and if it causes you itchiness and irritation. Dry skin usually looks dull and colorless and it can be tight and uncomfortable after washing. Your skin is extremely dehydrated if it begins to crack.

What causes dry skin?

  1. Heredity is a major factor as to why an individual has dry skin.
  2. A diet that is low in Vitamins A and B can also bring about dry skin.
  3. The person’s oil glands do not produce enough lubrication to the skin.
  4. Having an underactive thyroid is also a possible cause of dry skin.
  5. This skin condition is particularly common during winter since cold temperatures can cause dry, itchy skin. The same thing happens during hot, summer months however, because people tend to use air conditioners.
  6. Too much exposure to the sun and other elements can cause dry skin.
  7. Cosmetics and excessive bathing using strong soaps have also been proven to cause dry skin.
  8. If you take certain drugs like antihistamines, antispasmodics and diuretics, you probably have dry skin.

Choosing a Skin Care Product

choosing skin care productMany people these days are becoming more conscious of their physique. They exercise, go on diets, and yes, they even learn how to use skin care products. I’m not talking about the female species only. Even men are learning to take care of their skin in addition to the fitness regimen that they have.

What are the most popular skin care products available in the market today? These would be the lotion, moisturizer and cream. They sound like they’re just the same product with different names to an ordinary person. But there are differences:

Lotion

It is mostly used on larger parts of the body. It is meant to be applied to unbroken skin and, compared to creams, works well on body parts with hair (e.g. arms, legs and chest). Lotions are recommended for dry skin because it is easily absorbed by the body and it cools the skin. Lotions can be used daily and some are used as fragrances while others are anti-aging formulations. There are different types of lotions for men and women. Body and hand lotions are lighter and are meant for specific uses while facial lotions have sun block in its formulation and are used in addition to moisturizers.

Moisturizer

Wikipedia defines moisturizers as “complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin (epidermis) softer and more pliable, by increasing its hydration (water content) by reducing evaporation.” Moisturizers are recommended by dermatologists to prevent dry facial skin, and if this is done religiously, on a daily basis, moisturizers can also help prevent premature aging.

Cream

Body creams are usually applied to skin disorders like psoriasis and eczema. It is non-greasy, that is why these skin care products work well with most skin types. Creams are generally very thick and their formulation is richer and denser than that of moisturizers.

There are so many skin care products available out in the market. It really is up to you which product you would like to use. You can try lotions, creams and moisturizers by asking for samples in department stores. But, it would be best to ask for samples from your dermatologist. After all, he or she knows best what type of product is right for your skin.

Surprise Someone Special with a Skin Care Gift Set

skin care gift setWhen you go to stores during the holidays, it can be difficult to pick out presents for your friends and loved ones despite the variety of products that you see. Why not go to the skin care and beauty products department? You will surely see a lot of skin care gift sets there and they are often sold at promotional prices.

These skin care gift sets are perfect presents to your friends and loved ones. It would be a great way for them to try a variety of products. It also shows them that you took time to really think about what to give them. A skin care gift set would also show the recipient that you care about him or her because these products were created to address the user’s needs for his or her skin type.

These gift sets generally have a theme, where each of the products in the set usually have a common purpose or characteristic. Some skin care gift sets focus on rejuvenation, others on exfoliation, others on relaxation and still others, on fragrance. Some skin care lines even give you the option of choosing your own products so that you can make personalized gift sets according to what you know the recipient will like or need.

There are skin care gift sets specifically made for men’s skin type. These skin care kits are wonderful gifts because they would be a good way to introduce skin care to men who, ordinarily would not go out and buy skin care products for themselves. Typically, men get turned off by just the thought of trying to figure out what they need for their skin and which products they should buy.  Most men are only interested in getting themselves cleaned up. So, a skin care gift set would be the perfect present. These simple gift sets will not overwhelm a man who would probably just wash his face while taking a shower.

Next time you go Christmas shopping, why not try giving away skin care gift sets to all your adult friends and loved ones. These gifts will surely be appreciated by all the recipients.

AGE IS JUST A NUMBER BUT AGING CAN BE A PROBLEM

Technology is constantly improving and many countries continue to see progress despite the present economic downturn that has happened these past few years. But progress brings more responsibility to many people, and more responsibility brings stress and stress speeds up mankind’s aging process.

Everyone ages. Whoever you are, whatever you do, man, woman, rich or poor. Everybody will grow old. In fact, many people are so conscious of their mortality that, according to reports, Americans spend approximately $ 1.6 billion on anti-aging skin care products each year.

Nobody can really stop aging, not even your doctor. Age is a natural part of everyone’s life but signs of aging are sometimes more obvious on some people.

Factors that bring on premature aging:

1. Heredity is a big factor as to why some people look like they age faster than others. Premature aging is just part of their physical make-up.

2. Research shows that too much exposure to sunlight is the number one cause of aging. Ultraviolet rays break down collagen and elastin fibers in your skin, thereby causing your skin to sag and wrinkle.

3. If you don’t drink at least 8 full glasses of water a day, chances are you will age faster. Lack of water in the body causes dehydration and if your skin is not nourished with enough water, signs of aging will become more apparent.

4. Smokers tend to look older than non-smokers. Smoking causes the skin around the lips to become pinched thus, bringing on deep wrinkles.

There are ways to stop premature aging:

1. Protect yourself from the sun. If you cannot avoid staying out of the sun, maybe because of the nature of your work, always put sunscreen on your skin. Reapply often if you are outdoors for long periods of time. (Caution: For those who love sun tanning, a tanning bed can do the same damage to your skin).

2. Lose the excess weight and keep yourself active by doing regular exercises. But make sure you also have enough rest and sleep.

3. Cut down on sugar. Studies show that excessive intake of sugar can cause aging.

4. Eat food rich in Omega 3. Omega 3 helps keep your skin supple and firm.

5. Eat low glycemic carbohydrates such as whole grain cereals, oats and barley; and food rich in protein.

6. Drink at least 8 full glasses of water every single day. Avoid anything with caffeine and all alcoholic beverages as these may cause inflammation and irritation to your skin.

7. In addition to a healthy diet, there are a variety of anti-aging supplements you can buy, that can aid in the prevention of premature aging.

8. By the time you are in your mid-twenties, you need to have a daily skin care routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Do this twice a day and always remember to remove your make-up before going to bed.

9. In your forties or fifties, there are other available options that may help you delay the aging process. There are procedures that dermatologists offer like: Retin A or Renova prescriptions; chemical peels; botox or collagen injections, laser resurfacing, laser and photo rejuvenation.

We are lucky to live at a time where we have many options. Aging is inevitable. But instead of being afraid of growing old, do everything to live a healthy and happy lifestyle.

This reminds me of something Dorothea Kent shared: “A man ninety years old was asked to what he attributed his longevity. ‘I reckon,’ he said, with a twinkle in his eye, ‘it’s (sic) because most nights I went to bed and slept when I should have sat up and worried.’”
